'Children can be categorized broadly into three types: 1. Children in the first category are wired to focus and need little to no external motivation. They are usually very hard to distract. However, parents and teachers need to keep an eye out for these children as they are usually very sensitive, and are unfortunately targeted by their peers for their studious ways. It is important that parents and teachers give these students opportunity to share. 2. The second category of children require a goal to be motivated. Proper career guidance will do wonders for such children. They will require proper career plans to be motivated. 3. For the third category of children, long term goals do not work. They need short term goals and rewards to be motivated to do what is required. However, parents and teachers have to advance from tangible to intangible and further to intrinsic rewards. Scaring children into studying by painting a picture of a hopelessly corrupt present or predicting a dystopian future is not going to help. If the child has the capability, skills, and is ready to work hard, there is enough room at the top. It is essential to communicate optimism and positivity to children and give them hope.
